this is one of the books in the Brotherhood of the Sword series. Historical romance, set shortly after the crusades. Lachlan McGregor is a highland laird, who has reason to believe, that the brother he thought dead for many years, may still be alive. He leaves the highlands in search of his brother, and is searching in France when he comes across Catarina, running from her captors, and rescues her. Only to discover that she is the king's daughter and the captors are hired by her father to return her to him for an arranged marriage. Lachlan ends up promising to see her safely to an uncle who will protect her. Along the way they meet several members of the Brotherhood of the Sword, who aid them along their way.
