Burnt Offerings ~ Laurell Hamilton

This is the seventh book in the Anita Blake series. Anita is called to the hospital, where she learns that in killing Gabriel, the leader of the wereleopards, she has left them leaderless, and any one's meat, now they are suffering for her ignorance. Anita feels she has to do something, so she sets herself up as the temporary leader of the pard.

The Vampire council has come to town, seeking to determine if there needs to be punishment made for the death of another council member, Mr Oliver, from the third book, The Circus of the Damned. Also there is rumor that Jean Claude, Anita and Richard are starting up a new council and if this is true, it needs to be stopped before it undermines the existing counsel. With the council, a ghost from Jean Claude's past appears, Asher, who blames Jean Claude for the death of his love, and human servant, Julianna, as well as the horrible scarring he has lived with for the last 200 years.

The local Fire Marshal also consults with Anita over what appears to be a series of fires that appear to be started by a pyrokenetic. Can Anita, Jean Claude and Richard survive the encounter with the counsel?

This is the third book in the Anita Blake series. In this book there is a series of murders committed by what appears to be a rouge master vampire and his troupe. While investigating these murders, Anita encounters Alejandro, one of the oldest vampires that Anita has ever encountered. We see a great deal more Were animals in this book, especially werewolves. We also meet Richard for the first time in Circus of the Damned, a Junior High School science teacher that for some reason, spends his time with the monsters.

Guilty Pleasures ~ Laurell Hamilton

This is the first book in the Anita Blake series. I just reread this for about the third time, I love this series, it is definitely a sci/fi or fantasy because in these novels Vampires exist, as well as shape shifters or Were's (several species) and vampires are legal citizens in the US. In order to legally deal with criminal vampires the government issues death warrants and vampire hunters then hunt down and kill them, it is illegal to kill a vampire without a warrant. In this novel, we are just being introduced to the world of Anita Blake, we meet a few vampires, as well as Edward, a bounty hunter, and Rafael, the Rat King, he is the leader of the local group of wererats. I love these and reread them fairly often.

Sleeping with the Fishes ~ MaryJanice Davidson

This is a cute novel about a girl who is half mermaid, and only her parents and her best friend know about it. Soon she meets a new marine biologist at work, and the prince of the Undersea people shows up to demand her help with a problem.

This could be a stand alone novel, but would easily worked into an ongoing series, I look forward to how it develops.

Hot Stuff ~ Janet Evanovich and Leanne Banks

Cate Madigan, a bartender and student, is just trying to get through school, and survive the fix ups that her family throws her way. When suddenly, her roommate vanishes. Then Cate meets ex-cop Kellen McBride, he has decided that he needs to get to know Cate better. Soon Cate finds herself in deep trouble, and is not sure how to find her way out of it!

This has a typical Janet Evanovich feel to it, and has most of the usual elements of an Evanovich book. Boy, girl, dog, trouble. The only thing missing is the comedy, still a great book.

Darkfever ~ Karen Marie Moning

The Friday Night Knitting Club ~ Kate Jacobs

This is the story of Georgia Walker, who when she was young, alone and pregnant, started her own business, a knitting shop. Now that her daughter is 12, things are going well, and a knitting club has recently started in her shop on Friday nights. And her daughter's father is back in the picture. Georgia helps each woman in the knitting club grow, in their own way, through the course of the book, and when the time comes that Georgia needs help, they are all there for her.

I was a little slow to get interested in this, not sure if it was cause I was so busy, or the beginning was just a little slow, but it was really good. And I really enjoyed it.

Forever in Blue: The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood ~ Ann Brashares

This is the fourth book in the Traveling Pants series, and the conclusion to the same. This one starts out a little slow, had a weird feel to tit for a while, maybe it was just me, and I wasn't in the right frame of mind. All the girls have their own plans for the summer, and none of them involve being home or with each other, Tibby, Lena, and Carmen are all staying at school for different reasons, and Bee is going to Turkey for an Archeology dig. They continue to trade the pants, but it just doesn't have the same feel as the previous summers, they all pull away from the others for one reason or another.
