This is another in the ever growing Pern series begun by Anne McCaffrey. This book is a continuation of Dragon's Kin, and tells the continuing story of Kindan, after he turned Kist over to Nuella and moved to the the Harper Hall, and for the next couple of years on Pern.
Anne's son, Todd, seems to have taken over this series, and I enjoy his work, but it has a totally different feel than his mother. Todd seems to write a less complex and in depth story. He tells one story, from the beginning to the end, instead of jumping from one character to another to tell several facets of the tale. Still good, and very enjoyable, but just not the same.

The White Dragon ~ Anne McCaffrey
This is the fifth book in the Pern series. This book takes place at the same time as the previous four books together, plus more. It tells the story of Jaxom, the baby who was born to rule Ruatha, Lessa's home hold. How he grew, and accidentally impressed a dragon, trained and flew his dragon and what the two went on to do until Jaxom was confirmed the Lord Holder of Ruatha.

Dragon Singer ~ Anne McCaffrey
This is the fourth in the Pern series. This book takes up exactly where the last one left off. With Menolly going to the Harper Hall. In the Hall, Menolly is tested, and treated as though she is welcomed, Menolly is not used to this type of treatment and is somewhat lost at first. She soon learns that not only is her music and 'tunings' accepted, but expected and praised. Soon Menolly finds friends, and her place in the Harper Hall.

DragonSong ~ Anne McCaffrey
this is the third book in the Pern series. It takes place during Dragon Quest, just from a different perspective. Menolly is a girl who was raised in a conservative sea hold, who wants nothing more than to make music. Unfortunately, the rest of her hold believes that harpering is for men, not women, and are afraid she will disgrace the hold. Then Menolly is injured, and it appears she will never be able to play an instrument again. not all that long after her injury heals, Menolly leaves the hold, and the hold is reluctant to raise a search for a girl who may or may not have survived Thread fall, and is a disgrace anyway. Menolly learns to live on her own, evading thread, and thriving, until she is found by a dragon man, and taken to Bendon Wyer.

Dragon Quest ~ Anne McCaffrey
This is the second book in the Pern series. It has been several years since Lessa went back in time to bring forward the wyers of dragons to fight thread. Now there are troubles with those dragonmen. They are having a hard time adjusting to modern times and practices. And on top of that, even more seems to be changing, and Thread is not keeping to the pattern that had been worked out. Now F'lar and Lessa need to determine what must be done now.

Dragon Flight ~ Anne McCaffrey
This is the first book in the Pern series. Lessa is the last of the Ruathan blood. She has spent the last ten years hiding from the man who invaded her home, and killed all her family in a plot to take over their hold. F'lar is a dragonman, he is on search, looking for youngwomen who are likely to bond with the queen egg that is now sitting on the hatching grounds. Through a twist of fate, and with some pushing from Lessa, she has lost her family home, but has gained an entirely new life... but now Thread are coming, and they have no where near enough dragons to fight. There has to be some solution to the problem, but will they find it in time?

Dragon's Fire ~ Anne McCaffrey & Todd McCaffrey
This is a Pern Novel (way too many to count, and the order can be confusing) , This takes place during the second interval, during the same time, but from a different perspective, as Dragon's Kin. This story deals less with the mining of coal, and more with the Shunned and the mining of firestone, and how dangerous firestone mining can be. Yet the firestone is extremely important, as the time for the third pass is coming and they need the firestone for the dragons to burn the thread from the sky, and to practice being able to do so.
I really enjoyed this story, as I always enjoy the Pern novels. This feels to be more of Todd's work than Anne's as I can tell the difference in the 'feel' of Todd's work than from Anne's not that I don't like it just as much, it just has a different feel to it, and a different approach to the people.
