Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ~ J. K. Rowling

This is the first book in the Harry Potter Series. Harry has been raised by his Aunt and Uncle, believing that his parents were killed in a car accident when he was a baby. On the day of his eleventh birthday he discovers that his parents were wizards, and he is slated to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Through the book you follow the adventures and misadventures of Harry and his new friends through their first year at Hogwarts, and his first encounter with Voldemort, the evil wizard who killed his parents.

If you enjoy fantasy with youthful central characters, may I suggest a title to try? "Outcasts of Skagaray" by Andrew Clarke has a different setting from Harry Potter but you might still find it to your taste. Check it out on www.threeswans.com.au for excerpts and reviews. It would be interesting to know what you think of it!
